Gov. Gretchen Whitmer held her latest press conference without members of the press present.

The Aug. 5 briefing was the first held since Sen. Tom Barrett reported that he tested positive for COVID-19. Reporters attended via Zoom and submitted questions via the chat feature.

The number of COVID-19 cases has increased as testing has increased, but the death rate has flattened and the number of people showing symptoms has dropped, a release issued by Friends and Community News Group said. "Whitmer to keep what the Michigan Supreme Court termed hysteria, is declaring more laws daily to solidify her power of ruling the State without Legislative oversight." The latest in her list of rules declares two-year-olds guilty of a misdemeanor if they do not follow face covering guidelines.

Whitmer has said that she will only meet with select members of the media over Zoom.

"It appears the Governor is giving a hint that she is going to be becoming more of a recluse by stating, "We wanted to make sure we keep everyone safe as we adhere to the new rules about indoor gatherings across the state,” the release said.
