FOIA Request to St. Joseph County Election Division Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Sturgis-Coldwater News have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the St. Joseph County Election Division in Michigan. The request, dated February 5, 2025, seeks detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming spring election.

Specifically, we have asked for a list of all candidates including their first, middle and last names, the office they are running for, the jurisdiction of that office and their party affiliation. We have also requested contact information for each candidate which includes their address, phone number and email address.

We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities as journalists. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as media professionals.

Our aim is to ensure that our readers are well-informed about who is running for office in their local elections and can make informed decisions when they go to vote. We look forward to receiving this information from the St. Joseph County Election Division and sharing it with our readership.
