My motivation to donate to the GOCC

My motivation to donate to the GOCC

Glen Oaks Community College issued the following announcement on Dec. 29.

My motivation to donate to the GOCC Foundation is to pay forward a small portion of the benefits that my family gained by virtue of others providing low-cost community college education to me, my wife, and my mother at Lake Michigan College in the 1970s and 1980s. All three of us were able to pursue and acquire Bachelor degrees at least in part due to the cost reductions we experienced at LMC.

My family members are believers in the value of community colleges and because St. Joseph County has been my home for decades, GOCC is my home community college.

Someone famous once said, “to whom much has been given much should be expected.” No individual student has ever paid the full cost of providing a community college education, so I believe those of us who’ve benefited from the same have an obligation to donate.
