CITY OF STURGIS: Ribbon Cutting for New Children's Area and Community Room

Ribbon

City of Sturgis issued the following announcement on Sept 17.

The public is invited to join City officials, staff, and honored guests on Tuesday, September 17 from 4:30 until 6:30 PM for a Chamber Mixer and Ribbon Cutting ceremony at the Sturgis Public  Library.

Prior to the formal program, children’s activities are scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM.  Speakers will include guests from the Sturgis Public Library, Ft. Meade Museum, the Sturgis Area Arts Council, the Sturgis Area Chamber, and Michael Elliott.  Live music will be provided by Paul Peterson; refreshments will be served.

The new children’s area and community room were made possible by a generous gift from long-time Sturgis residents,  Albert and Laverne Elliott.  This charitable gift is just one of many that will be an ongoing celebration of the lives that Al and Laverne led in Sturgis. The Elliott’s generosity was earlier recognized within the Sturgis community by establishment of the Albert and Laverne Elliott First Responder Fund at the Black Hills Area Community Foundation last fall.  Through that fund, a $20,000 donation was made to the wife of first responder David Fischer who died while responding to a house fire in Tilford on September 7, 2018.  Additional gifts have also been made to the Sturgis Area Arts Council and the Old Ft. Meade Museum.  The Albert and Laverne Elliott Fund for Arts and Literacy has also been established at the Black Hills Area Community Foundation.
