The Department of Art and Design at Murray State University will host a panel discussion on the intersections of photography and imaging in the areas of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and art (STEAM) on Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m. in room 623 of the Price Doyle Fine Arts Building. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
Panelists include visiting artist Calista Lyon, Dr. Matthew Williams from the Murray State Institute of Engineering, Dr. Marcie Venter from the Murray State Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, research librarian and photographer Dana Thompson from the Murray State Arthur J. Bauernfeind College of Business and Michael Busby, coordinator of geographic information system and drone imaging in Murray State’s Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. Michelle Burdine, visiting professor of photography in Murray State’s Department of Art and Design, will moderate.
Panelists will discuss the exploration and practices that have been discovered and continue to be explored to drive advancement in their fields and varied careers

The panel is sponsored by The Elena Diane Curris Endowment for the Visual Arts and was created at Murray State in memory of Elena Curris, the daughter of Jo Hern Curris and Dr. Constantine Curris, the University’s sixth president. Elena Curris earned an associate degree in communications from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications and photography from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. Over the course of her career, Curris worked with the “Mirabella” magazine, the Ralph Lauren Corporation and California State University at Long Beach. She also maintained a lifelong passion for photography and the arts. The Elena Diane Curris Endowment for the Visual Arts was created to support the strength and reputation of the University’s visual arts programs.
