Coldwater Michigan City Offices issued the following announcement on March 21.

Dear City of Coldwater Residents,

To say that the events of the last week in response to the Covid-19 pandemic have been challenging would be an understatement. We wanted to update you on what the City/CBPU Team is doing in this difficult time to continue to serve you through this ever-evolving crisis.

Our two publicly accessible buildings, the Henry L. Brown Municipal Building (City Hall) and Robert W. Browne Recreation Center are closed to the public until at least Monday, April 6th but the staff remains on duty to serve the community.

Our Public Safety Director and Fire Chief remain in direct contact with the Branch County Emergency Manager and Branch Hillsdale St. Joseph County Health Department to help guide our ongoing planning process.

Our Police Department is fully staffed and continues to provide 24-7 service. If you require assistance, regardless of it being an emergency or not, please contact Branch County Central Dispatch at 911.

Our Fire Department is fully staffed and our Firefighters/EMTs remain ready to respond as we take extensive steps to protect their safety while continuing to provide service to the community.

Our Municipal Services staff are dividing into two crews and rotating shifts to limit contact but continue to provide necessary services to the community.

The employees of the CBPU continue to provide around the clock reliable electric, water, sewer, and telecommunications services while taking steps to protect their own safety.

Utility shutoffs have been suspended during this time and the City/CBPU will work with customers who find themselves in financial difficulty on an individual case by case basis.

We are taking steps to protect our employees by reducing and staggering their hours as well as providing opportunities to work remotely to promote “social distancing” and limit direct contact in compliance with State and Federal Covid-19 guidance.

Rest assured that the Coldwater City/CBPU Team continues to serve, guard and protect our 11,000 residents and please follow the State and Federal guidelines to keep you and your families safe.
