25 students along with their advisor, Mrs. Cardiel, participated in the spring Youth in Government (YIG) Early conference

Sturgis High School issued the following announcement on Feb. 21.

This past weekend 25 students along with their advisor, Mrs. Cardiel, participated in the spring Youth in Government (YIG) Early conference. Several Sturgis students won awards and Sturgis High School’s very own Ian Earl was voted as 2023 Michigan Youth Governor for early conference! This is a huge accomplishment!

Other students who won awards were: Landon Powell for best Defense Attorney with the mock trial program. Matthew Toner for Outstanding Delegate in Legislative Oversight. Lauren Alwine for Outstanding Press Delegate. Our delegation was also able to get two bills passed by the legislature that were signed into law by the current youth governor.

To quote Mrs. Cardiel:  As the YIG advisor, I couldn’t be more proud of my kids and all of their hard work.  It was a very successful conference and we are looking forward to next year’s conference!
