Chief James Craig for Governor Response to President Biden SOTU

Mic gee3e0d49e 1280

Chief James Craig for Governor issued the following announcement on Mar. 2.

Americans face record-high inflation, soaring energy costs and surging crime rates. President Biden, last night, painted a rosy picture that the average family doesn’t experience; we are in crisis.

The policies implemented by Democrats have devastated the economy and are hurting families. Gretchen Whitmer and Joe Biden must be held accountable for their failed policies and broken promises.

We didn’t hear the President address making America energy independent as energy prices soar. It is imperative that, in Michigan, we don’t follow the lead of Gretchen Whitmer who continues to advocate that we close down Line 5. The impact of closing down line 5 will hit Michigan’s economy by over $3 billion, kill nearly 7,000 jobs and further drive-up energy costs for our families.

Americans are less safe today than when the President took office. Joe Biden is only taking border security seriously now that an election is less than a year away. Allowing open borders has increased crime, the flow of drugs like fentanyl and human trafficking. Border security impacts every state in our country and must be addressed immediately.

Democrats are trying to walk back the devastation that they caused with the Defund the Police Movement. Even Gretchen Whitmer is trying to walk back her “spirit of defunding the police” rhetoric. While it’s good to finally hear the President say that the police should be funded, the damage has been done.

Joe Biden spoke about officers that were killed in the line of duty and then talked about reform to hold officers accountable. Where is the accountability for people who break the law and target our officers? His words of funding the police are empty if he cannot support the women and men in law enforcement by ensuring that the criminals that they arrest are not released back into the public by rogue prosecutors and bad policies like bail reform.

President Biden focusing on gun control is missing the mark. The problem is not with gun control, the problem is with criminal control. Gun control establishes rules for people who follow the law. More law-abiding citizens carrying guns to protect themselves will help to reduce violent crime.

As Joe Biden tried to convince Americans that things aren’t as bad as they seem, Michigan’s Rashida Tlaib pushed the progressive agenda that has driven the United States into our current position. Tlaib advocated for a massive expansion of the federal government, a continued assault on police officers by cutting qualified immunity and energy policies that will further drive up the costs of Michigan families.

While Congresswoman Tlaib claimed that she was “putting working people first” the policies that she supports will devastate working people first.

Governor Whitmer will not take a stand for Michigan and denounce the devasting progressive policies that she, Joe Biden and Rashida Tlaib have supported, so it’s time for her to go. We need new leadership that will put Michigander’s first and pass policies that will reduce inflationary increases, lower our energy costs, and keep our communities safe.
