The Glen Oaks Board of Trustees approved Juneteenth, a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans, as a holiday at the June 9 board meeting.
Beginning on June 20 (the official federal holiday this year) the college will close each year in observance of Juneteenth. The actual day of observance since 1865 is June 19, but if it falls on a Saturday it will be observed on Friday before, and if it falls on a Sunday it will be observed on the Monday following.
