Enrollment at Mendon Community School District decreased by 1.3% compared to previous school year

There were 455 students enrolled in Mendon Community School District in the 2022-23 school year, 1.3% less than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 52.3% of them were boys, and 47.7% were girls.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 89.9% of the Mendon Community School District total enrollment.

Mendon Community School District covers two schools within St. Joseph County with its main office in Mendon. Among them, Mendon Middle/High School recorded the highest enrollment of 267 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
