U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg (R-Tipton) shared his thoughts on the recent Republican and Democratic National Conventions during an interview on "The Paul W. Smith Show" in late August.

He started by commending the “uplifting” Republican National Convention that took place during the last week of August.

“I’m feeling good about America this week, not just simply because the president, the Republicans are saying it, but we’re hearing from the people of America… All it took was having a naturalization of five new legal citizens coming from various walks of life, differences, countries, religions, and the president giving the opportunity last night to show what goes on,” he told Smith.

Walberg compared the event to the Democratic National Convention, which was held a week prior, and noted that he publicly took issue with what he saw.

“I listened to Joe Biden and I stated publicly that Joe Biden, in his presentation last week, it was a good speech in a difficult room… There was no feedback there,” Walberg said during his interview with Smith, noting that the event was virtual without an audience. “But his speech was not of hope, his speech punched back at what this administration has done. It didn’t tell all of the good things that came, certainly blocked out what took place prior to the pandemic in March, when this country was at the top of its game, historically.”

He said that pre-COVID-19, African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, and women saw record low unemployment rates, and there were 7 million open jobs waiting to be filled.

He saluted the positivity that was shown during the RNC, something he suggested was lacking during the Democrats’ event.

“They are factual, unlike the postal issue the Democrats started just before their convention and carried it through and tried to make it something beyond what it is. Sure, we have problems with the Postal Service. We had a bill for that reason between the late Elijah Cummings and Mark Meadows, who now is the Chief of Staff for the president... That was put together with some reforms that were needed for the Postal Service that our mail carriers want to see, but Nancy Pelosi wouldn’t bring it up. And so now here comes the postal issue, allegedly.”

He ended by stating he has a good feeling about the country as a whole.
