City of Sturgis issued the following announcement on Nov. 12.
The City of Sturgis City Commission will hold a Public Hearing on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. in the Wiesloch Raum of City Hall, 130 N. Nottawa Street, Sturgis, MI 49091 on a proposed roundabout at the intersection of N. Franks Avenue, E. Lafayette Road, and the Middle School’s east entrance. The purpose of the Public Hearing is to receive public comment from interested persons regarding the proposed project. Sturgis has received a Highway Safety Improvements Program Grant (HSIP) to assist with funding the intersection safety improvements and a Public Hearing is a requirement of the Federal Highway Administration and Michigan Department of Transportation when proposed right of way acquisition and taking of public land is part of the project. The purpose of the grant is to improve the safety at the intersection and provide Sturgis Middle School students a safer crossing on E. Lafayette Road.
Recommended improvements include the following:
• Construction of a roundabout
• Sidewalk improvements
• Intersection Lighting
This project is partially funded through a Highway Safety Improvements Program Grant (HSIP).
