Sturgis Journal Michigan issued the following announcement on Aug. 20.
It is with broken hearts that we share this story with our readers today. Corky Emrick, Journal sports editor, passed away Monday. “His dedication to the Journal and its readers, as well as his co-workers, was unparalleled.”
St. Joseph County lost one of its most respected journalists Monday, when Corky Emrick, longtime Sturgis Journal sports editor, passed away.
He began his career at the Journal as a freelance photographer in 1996, covering the police beat, as well as high school sports events. He joined the news team full-time in 1999 and worked his way into the sports editor role in 2008.
