City of Sturgis Department of Public Services crews will begin a one-time brush pickup on Monday, November 17. The special collection is being organized in response to a large number of fallen limbs caused by heavy snowfall over the past weekend. Leaf pickup operations will also continue through the end of November, as weather allows.
Residents are asked to place brush and tree limbs in the right-of-way or terrace area, off the street, by 7:00 a.m. on November 17 to ensure their materials are collected. Crews will make only one pass through each neighborhood, starting on the north side of town and moving south. Any brush placed out after crews have passed may not be picked up.
The city requests that residents create separate piles for brush and leaves in the designated areas. Standard rules for brush pickup apply:
"No limbs, branches, or brush material larger than 4 inches in diameter will be collected.
No limbs, branches, or brush material longer than 8 feet in length will be collected.
No grass clippings, roots, thorn-bearing branches, tree trunks, stumps, or construction materials will be collected.
A limit of 1 truck load of material per parcel will be collected and hauled away.
Materials must be neatly stacked on the terrace away from objects or obstructions such as power poles, guy wires, sign posts, valve boxes, etc."
Leaf pickup efforts began on the north side of town and are proceeding southward. After completing a full sweep through town, crews plan to start again from the north side if time permits before winter conditions prevent further collection.
