Sgt. David Crilly parted ways with the Coldwater Police Department after nearly 22 years, WTVB The Voice of Branch County reported on June 10.
Crilly’s official departure was on March 27. His first day at the department was on June 18, 1998. The department was brief in its statement, which consisted of two short sentences giving a background on Crilly’s time on the force. It ended with, “No further comments will be made on this personnel matter,” according to WTVB.
While the Coldwater Police Department was brief in its statement, it came just 10 days after WOOD-TV confirmed that the city opted out of pursuing criminal charges against an officer being investigated for alleged misconduct. The officer’s identity wasn’t revealed.
WOOD-TV accessed the details under the Freedom of Information Act, but because so much of it was redacted, it was difficult to see, not only the nature of the charges, but why prosecutors didn’t want to move forward with the case.
Public Safety Director Joe Scheid said on Feb. 14 that the anonymous officer was on administrative leave until the State Police’s probe was complete on March 18. An internal investigation was started after the State Police wrapped up its own. The Coldwater Police Department has yet to confirm if the officer involved in the Allegan County incident.
The department did follow protocol in asking state police to perform the investigation.
