City of Sturgis issued the following announcement on July 16.
Work on Phase I of the West Congress Utility and Street Improvements project is scheduled to begin the week of July 19th and run through mid-October. Project work will occur on W. Congress Street from S. Centerville (M-66) to Prairie Street. Construction crews are expected to begin placing barricades on Monday, with construction beginning in earnest on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The project will include reconstructing and resurfacing the street as well as replacing water main and water services and replacement of storm water piping and catch basins.
Access to W. Congress Street will be limited during construction and vehicles will not be allowed to park on the street during this period. We ask that all residents note the following during construction:
• If you are driving in the construction area, please proceed with caution.
• Avoid the construction area by parking on side streets, where allowed.
• Local traffic will be allowed to access residences when possible.
• No thru traffic on W. Congress Street will be allowed.
Construction timelines, as always, are dependent upon weather conditions and contractor schedules. Start and end time for the project may be adjusted based on these factors.
