Senator Jonathan Lindsey from Coldwater has expressed his approval of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's decision to prohibit red dye No. 3 in food, beverages, and drugs. In a statement, Lindsey remarked, "The Food and Drug Administration elected to ban red dye No. 3 from foods, dietary supplements and ingested medicines. In the decision, the FDA confirmed the long-held belief that red dye No. 3 is a carcinogen."

Lindsey noted that this ban is a positive step towards improving public health in Michigan: "While this is long overdue, it is rewarding that rulings are being made that will improve the health of Michiganders." He highlighted that nearly 35 years ago, red dye No. 3 was prohibited in cosmetics due to cancer concerns but questioned its continued use in consumable products.

Reflecting on his legislative efforts, Lindsey stated: "During the last legislative session, I worked on bipartisan legislation to tackle the problem of unsafe foods." He intends to persist with these efforts by seeking state-level policy solutions aimed at enhancing safety and health standards in Michigan.

Looking ahead to changes at the federal level, Lindsey mentioned upcoming transitions in government leadership: "In five days, President Donald Trump will take office and his choice for secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Robert Kennedy Jr., will continue to make significant advancements." He expressed optimism about aligning state legislation with broader national health initiatives.
